About Betjeman & Barton
It was Arthur Betjeman (related to Sir John Betjeman, the well-known English poet) who opened the “The English Tea House’’ in Paris in 1919, after having completed his study of tea in Dublin in London. His partnership with Percy Barton lead to the new brand name Betjeman & Barton. Although they successfully introduced the English way of drinking tea in Paris, there was a need for adaptation. French taste and preference, naturally, seeped in the business the two gentlemen had built up.
And so, a perfect balance was created, between English perspectives on tea as a pure and distinguished delicacy, and the freedom of French taste, stimulating a curiosity for new flavours and leaving the floor to creative input.
In 1992, Marion van den Blik opened the first Betjeman & Barton shop in the Hague, soon followed by a second shop as well as a wholesale business, to supply Betjeman & Barton’s products to the hospitality industry.
As of September 1st 2018, we have been given the opportunity to take over. Having worked in corporate life for numerous years, we followed our hearts and began Bommels Conserven, a wholesale business for distinguished delicacies, in 2012. When Betjeman & Barton came on our path, it was a logical step for us to further this wonderful company.
Our current selection of teas constitutes more than 200 different types, and is still continuously developing.
Betjeman & Barton does not believe in mass supply, but rather stands by absolute quality. As a testament to this, all teas are subjected to thorough selection procedures prior to purchase.
In addition to its selection of classical tea, Betjeman & Barton also specialises in the creation of unique and well-balanced blends. Only natural essences and aromas are added to the flavoured teas of Betjeman & Barton. This ensures that the tea will not just become sweet, but rather stays pure and features a hint of that which was added to it.

For the hospitality industry and reseller clients, we offer a wide-ranging service consisting of training, tea menus, accessories, etc.
